The other day I was on a zoom call. But when I made a comment the other participants started laughing. When one of them was finally able to catch her breath she told me “you sound like a chipmunk” . Obviously a sound setting problem.
What caused it? I suspect that perhaps a windows update reset my sound settings, but I don’t really know.
I had a similar problem some time ago when I was trying to setup a non-Microsoft microphone on my pc, so I thought that would be a good place to start.
So, if you’re on windows 10, here follows the procedure to fix the sound problem.
Go to settings>system>sound (click your start menu, settings is the gear icon)

- Under input select device properties>additional device properties

- Choose (FM Radio Quality) as shown.
- Hit ok.
- Test the microphone.
- If it doesn’t work, try other Default Format Settings.
On my system, windows gives 3 different options for the “Default Format”. The FM Radio Quality was the one that worked for me.
Hope this helped.
